Graduates of City College are welcome to use any of the library services and facilities for reference and private study provided they first register with the Library. Registration includes access to all material, such as books, audiovisual media, periodicals and electronic information services, as well. The contact point for further information is the Information Services Desk.
Access to the Library Services & Facilities Graduates can become members of the Library upon a fee, currently 15 Euro annually. Membership forms are available from the Library Issue Desk. Personal ID or Passport, as well as a photograph are required for registration. In addition, you can search the Library Online Services from your personal computer at home or work, and when you find books or articles you require, you can ask us to post them to you, or reserve them for collection on your next visit to the Library.
Registration to the library entitles graduates to the following: Loan of five items
Types of loan
Returning loans Borrowed items should always be returned in person or by an authorised person to the Library Issue Desk during working hours (09:00am to 21:00pm Monday to Friday and 10:00am to 2:00pm on Saturdays). Please note that you must always hold your Library and Membership Cards when borrowing and returning items. Overdue items Strict fines apply to those who return to the Library overdue items. Failure to pay a fine will result in the withdrawal of all borrowing entitlements, including access to the library computing facilities. Renewing loans Renewals may be made in person or by an authorised person always at the Library Issue Desk. Alternatively, if you cannot visit the Library you can use the telephone or e-mail renewal service. E-mail renewal requests may be sent to: library@city.academic.gr. Items can be renewed twice, provided no one else has reserved them and there are no outstanding fines.
Library Information Services (LIS) currently provide access to a wide range of sources in various formats, including printed, CD-Rom, Online, Web-based, covering almost every subject area to satisfy the information needs of users. Access to the Library’s Information Services is possible for graduates provided that: § They have booked a computer in advance § If not, there is a free computer § Library Information Services are used for private research or study Computing facilities The computing facilities at the Library include: Thirteen PCs that offer: § Catalogue, Database and Internet searches § Intranet service § Word processing and other software applications Scanning service One of the library computers is connected to a scanner and enables users to digitise photographs, images, or texts from printed material. Printing facilities A printer located at the entrance of the Library Computer Lab is available for members use only. Please note that printing is charged 0.03 cents per page. Electronic Information Resources (EIR) The Library is subscribed to a number of computer-based information services, including online databases and electronic journals which allow fast and fulltext access to a wide range of information. EIR house an extensive collection of reference material such as, journals, newspapers, directories and guides, encyclopeadias, official and statistical publications. Databases Most databases are fulltext providing access to the full content of periodical articles, newpapers and conference proceedings. Where only citations and abstracts are available you can use the Interlibrary Loan Service to obtain the fulltext of the material you require. Details of all available databases can be found at the Electronic Information Resources Library Web pages. Electronic Journals The Library provides Internet access to a large number of fulltext electronic journals. When accessing remotely the electronic journals you can only view the abstracts of the articles. You can contact the Library Information Services Desk by telephone or e-mail to obtain the fulltext of articles within one day.
I f you require for private study or research, articles that are not held by the Library, you may apply for them by using the Interlibrary loan service. Please note that if your membership has expired or if you have any overdue books or fines you will not be allowed to use this service.Order forms are available from the Information Services Desk. When filling in an order form please make sure that the bibliographic details of the requests are complete and accurate. In cases were details are incorrect or data is ommitted, delays might arise. The Information Services staff will notify you by telephone or e-mail if a significant delay is anticipated and when an item is received for collection. The Library can supply the requested material within one week if ordered from a national library and two weeks when ordered from abroad. The material may be sent by post to home or business address, if requested. When the electronic version of a document is available you may receive your order by e-mail within two business days. Graduates of City College are allowed to use the Library's photocopy machine. Please note that there is a charge of 0.03 cents per page for photocopying material of the Library.
The Library Staff of City College are pleased to help graduates with any general enquiries they might have regarding locations and use of the library services and facilities. For more detailed enquiries a prior request for an appointment with the Head Librarian is required. Appointments should be made during office hours 10:00-15:00, Monday to Friday.
