Information for external library users

The primary aim of City College Library is to support the teaching, learning and research needs of both the Academic staff and enrolled students of the College. Therefore, services to the wider academic and local community are provided, where this can be achieved, without interfering with the library’s main objective.

Access to the Library Services & Facilities

Individuals who wish to use the library services and facilities are welcome to apply for membership. External users may register and become members upon a fee, currently 15 Euro semi-annually and 30 Euro annually. Membership forms are available at the Library Issue Desk. Personal ID or Passport, as well as, a photograph are required for registration. 

Membership entitles external users to the following:

  § Access to all printed material from the standard loan collections

  § Borrowing entitlements

  § Access to some of the library information services

  § Use of the computing facilities

All external users are required to comply with the Library's rules and regulations, copies of which are handed out when registering at the Library Issue Desk.

 


 

Borrowing Entitlements

Registration to the library entitles external members to the following:

Loan of five items

§ The normal loan period is two weeks, unless recalled by another user

§ Renewal by telephone or e-mail (maximum of one week)

Types of loan

Standard loan items: including social sciences, history, fiction, literature books and non-book media

Three items

Three weeks

May be renewed twice for a week

Short loan items: including business, economics, computer science, psychology books

Two items

Two weeks 

Can not be renewed

Reserved items: including business, economics, computer science, psychology textbooks and references

Not available for loan

Use for study within the premises of the Library 

 

Returning loans

Borrowed items should always be returned in person by approaching the Library Issue Desk during working hours (09:00am to 21:00pm Monday to Friday and 10:00am to 2:00pm on Saturdays). Please note that you must always hold your Library and Membership Cards when borrowing or returning items.

Overdue items 

Strict fines apply to those who return to the Library overdue items. Failure to pay a fine will result in the withdrawal of all borrowing entitlements, including access to the library computing facilities.

Renewing loans

Renewals may be made in person always at the Library Issue Desk. Alternatively, if you cannot visit the Library you can use the telephone and e-mail renewal service. E-mail renewal requests may be sent to: library@city.academic.gr. Renewals are allowed only for the standard loan items, provided no one else has applied for reservation and there are no outstanding fines.

 


 

Library Information Services (LIS)

Access to the Library’s computers and networked information services is possible for external users only upon permission of the Information Services Desk and provided they have booked in advance a computer.

External members may use the library information services for:

  § Catalogue and Internet searches

  § Word processing and other software applications

  § Scanning of photographs, images, texts 

Printing facilities

A printer located at the entrance of the Library Computer Lab is available for members use only. Please note that printing is charged 0.03 cents per page.

Electronic Information Resources (EIR)

The Online Library Services, including the Online Library Catalogue (OPAC),  may be accessed from  the main Library Web page,  by clicking on the related links. Students can use these services to: 

§ Check what books the library holds

§ Check what journals the library holds

§ Search for subject resources via our Subject Pages

§ Access bibliographic and fulltext database

§ Access the electronic journals collection

§ Find links to various Web Resources

Please note that remote access to databases is available only for current students and academic staff of City College.


 

Photocopying

External users are allowed to use the photocopy machine of the Library. Please note that there is a charge of 0.03 cents per page for photocopying material.
