In addition to general services the Library offers a number of support services to its members to help them get familiar with the library and its use.

Enquiries

The Library has an enquiry desk which is the first point of reach for general enquiries about library collections, resources and services. This is the point where you can get help related to particular services such as loans, photocopying, booking, as well as, advice on where to locate material in the library. The enquiry desk can be approached in person, by phone (+3231 0224521), fax (+3231 0269095) or e-mail, by sending an Ask a librarian form.

 


 

Reference Services

Reference services are handled by the Information Services Desk which is responsible for identifying and meeting the information needs of both the academic staff and the students. Their responsibilities include, dealing with subject-related and complex enquiries, selecting, developing and managing library collections, in consultation with the academic departments, literature searching, and advice to staff and students on all aspects of library services.

To support staff and students the library will:

§ Acquaint new users with the Library facilities, services and policies

§ Answer bibliographic, subject, and database related enquiries

§ Instruct for the efficient and effective searching of databases

§ Produce Library Guides about Services & Collections

§ Inform about new library services

and in general, help you solve problems related to library research and use of information resources.

Library Orientations

With the commencement of the academic year, each academic department books Library Orientation Tours for their students. The purpose of these tours is to:

§ Orientate new students to Library facilities, services, policies and regulations

§ Introduce the library collections and resources.

§ Instruct on how to locate and request material.

§ Introduce the procedures for borrowing and using the electronic resources.

Furthermore, Library Regulations and printed guides of the Library Collections and Services are distributed to students.


 

Library Tutorials

Turorials are held at the Library aiming to show students how to search for and retrieve relevant information from resources and how to search databases effectively. The tutorials are scheduled for individual and small groups, upon request. 

The Internet training materials available on the How to Use the Internet Web pages, will help you use the Internet effectively.

Course Support

Teaching support

§ In support of teaching, priority is given to the availability of items on reading lists, course outlines, syllabi or other teaching documentation.

§ To check the availability of resources, a copy of the course syllabus, is sent in time to the Library. The librarians will report back, informing the Academic Staff for all available library material and resources.

§ Books or Journals not currently in stock, are immediately ordered.

§ Textbooks and reference books are ordered in multiple copies.

Student Support

§ All the material included in the Reading Lists of the Courses is held at the Short Loan and the Reserve Collections of the Library. This material is available for students in multiple copies.

§ Copies of all Module Study Packs used for further reading are held at the Reserve Collection of the Library.

§ The Librarians will assist students with reading list queries.

 


 

Feedback

The Library welcomes feedback from all its users. Feedback and comments for improving library services can be reported on the Feedback forms.

Suggestions for purchasing new material can be reported on the recommendation forms. Choose the appropriate recommendation form from the Online Library Forms Web page and send it to the Library. Once you send the suggestion, it will be considered and you will receivean acknowledgement informing you whether or not the library will purchase the recommended material.
