Current Awareness Services

Current awareness or alerting services enable the Academic staff and students to keep informed about the latest literature appearing in their specific fields of interest by providing regular updates on recently published material. These services usually require you to register your search profile and whenever something that matches your profile is published, an alert notification email is sent to you. The following sections highlight a number of key resources for identifying new literature.

Email Table of Contents Services from Publishers

Blackwell Synergy
Registration to their e-mail alert service allows you to receive the table of contents of any new issue of journal titles available on Blackwell Synergy, for free. Subject coverage includes Business, Economics, Accounting, Finance and Statistics.

Cambridge University Press
Cambridge Journals Online provide a keyword, subject and TOCs alerting service which will notify you with e-mail, when new content becomes available. 

Elsevier Science
Elsevier Science provides a number of alerting and awareness services in support of its journal publishing programme. Most are available free of charge, some are only available to those at subscribing institutions. Subjet categories include Economics, Business and Management.

Emerald Alert
Provides personal e-mail notification of new articles published online, ensuring that users are kept up to date with the latest research.

Infotrieve Online
Table of Contents Browsing and Alert Service for over 30,000 periodicals. The TOC alert service delivers tables of contents to you as they arrive from the publisher based on journal titles you have pre-selected and entered into your TOC profile.

Ingenta Select
Ingenta Select's TOCs alerting service will e-mail you the contents page of any chosen journal whenever the latest issue becomes available online. 

Kluwer Alert
Free of charge, Kluwer publisher, will notify you of the latest research developments in your field of interest -- including journal tables of contents and announcements about new books, journals and other products as soon as they become available. Subject headings include Economics, Operations Research, Management and Business Administration. 

Oxford University Press
OUP offer a free e-mail table of contents alerting service - to regularly receive by e-mail the latest table of contents of any OUP journal(s). Titles include Oxford Review of Economic Policy and Review of Financial Studies.

Sage Publications Email Alerting Service
Register your email address and details to receive new publications alerts and journal contents alerts. Subject areas include Development Studies, Marketing, Management & Organisational Studies, Public Administration and Economics. 

SARA - Scholarly Articles Research Alerting
SARA is a service designed to deliver by email, tables of contents for any issue of Carfax, Psychology Press, Routledge, Spon Press or Taylor & Francis journals to anyone who has requested the information. This service is completely free of charge and you can select to receive alerts by keyword, title, sub-category or main category. Subjects covered include Accounting, Business and Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance, HRM, IT and Innovation and Marketing.

Springer Link Alert
SpringerLink e-mails lists of new books on your choice of subject area published by Springernotice of new Online First articles tables of contents links to new abstracts the SpringerLink newsletter.

Sweet & Maxwell Alerting Service
The only service offering full integration of cases, legislation, current awareness, journals and commentary.

Triangle Journals
Triangle Journals are publishers of international journals in the social sciences, with a special focus on educational research.  Individual websites have been created, including full information about the journals, with free access to the contents pages of current and back issues.

Amedeo.com - The Medical Literature Guide
AMEDEO’s core components include weekly emails with bibliographic lists about new scientific publications, personal Web pages for one-time download of available abstracts (see example), and an overview of the medical literature published in relevant journals over the past 12 to 24 months. All these new information resources are free of charge. 

BUBL Journals Service 
This service provides the contents, abstracts or full text for over 200 current journals and newsletters (library and information science, social and medical services, computing, business, agriculture and food science), and includes Boolean searching facilities. 

Directory of Computing Science Journals 
Links to 522 journals, with 414 publisher's title pages, tables of contents, abstracts directories, home pages, bibliographies, full-text archives, online journals, and other information. 

EEVL Current Awareness Services
EEVL is the Internet Guide to Engineering, Mathematics and Computing. EEVL's mission is to provide access to quality networked engineering, mathematics and computing resources, and be the national focal point for online access to information in these subjects.

European Integration Current Contents
Provides access to the tables of contents of journals relevant in European Integration research - law, human rights, economics, history and political sciences. Currently it covers 106 journals published in nine languages and 14 countries. Where available, abstracts are also included. 

EU Official Statistics - Eurostat
An e-mail alerting service is available for new statistics information. 

IEEE Xplore 
Browse and access tables of contents of IEEE transactions, journals, magazines, conference proceedings and standards.  

PSYCLINE
An index of over 1,600 online psychology and social science journals. 


 

Preprint Archives

Preprints are manuscripts that have not yet been published, but may have been reviewed and accepted; submitted for publication; or intended for publication and being circulated for comment. Preprints may also be referred to as "e-prints". Many e-prints are electronic versions of research papers that have been submitted for dissemination and review among peers; for publication in journals; or prior to presentation at conferences. Some preprint servers may define preprints as any electronic work circulated by the author outside of the traditional publishing environment. PrePRINT Network. Article preprints are available in a variety of subjects. Examples include:

ArXiv E-Print archive 
An automated electronic archive and distribution server for research papers in the areas of Physics and related disciplines, Mathematics, Nonlinear Sciences and Computer Science. You may also register to receive by e-mail newly submitted papers in your areas of interest. 

BBSPrints Interactive Archive 
Behavioral and Brain Sciences Preprints Archive allows you to submit papers, commentaries, responses, search the archive and edit user information, including adding e-mail and address details and altering your BBS Mailing list status for receiving BBS Calls for Commentators. 

CogPrints - Cognitive Sciences E-print Archive
CogPrints, is an electronic archive for self-archive papers in any area of Psychology, neuroscience, and Linguistics, and many areas of Computer Science, Philosophy, Biology, Medicine, Anthropology, as well as any other portions of the physical, social and mathematical sciences that are pertinent to the study of cognition. The service includes a current awareness email alerting service, allowing you to instruct the archive to inform you of new articles arriving in the archive in your chosen subject areas. 

EconWPA - Economics Working Papers Archive
EconWPA is devoted to the free distribution of working papers in economics. There are 22 subject areas, along with a test posting area, a meetings area, an area for programs and an area for data. Other areas are added when demand dictates.You may want to subscribe to the NEP Notification Service which sends email notifications of new papers, including those on
EconWPA. 

ERPA - European Research Papers Archive
ERPA is a common access point for the following online series  in the field of European integration research: Online publications on European research, MPIfG Discussion Papers & MPIfG Working Papers, Jean Monnet Working Papers, European Integration online Papers (EIoP)    

PrePrint Network 
The PrePRINT Network provides access to electronic preprints available from diverse sites. Developed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), the Network is a "one-stop shopping" site for preprints in computer technologies and information sciences, environmental sciences and ecology, medicine, biology, mathematics, geoscience, and related disciplines. The PrePRINT Alerts feature allows users to create personal profiles which will then notify the user as new information is added.

Many book publishers offer a free alerting service, by e-mailing lists of newley published titles. Below is a list of the publisher's sites you may visit to register and be informed of new books in your area of interest.

Addison-Wesley eMailing lists
Provides monthly e-mail notification of new titles. 

Amazon.com Alerts
An index of over 1,600 online psychology and social science journals. 

Blackwell E-mail Alerts
A free e-mail alerting service from Blackwell Publishers, that sends news of the latest books in your field. Key subject headings include Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics and Statistics. More specific subjects can be selected by opting to refine your selection. 

BOOKNews
Announcements of the latest books in science, technology and medicine from specialist publishers around the world. Includes a brief abstract of the book and a link to the relevant publisher. 

Computer Bookshops Ltd
Provides a weekly list of new computing titles, as well as business books, dictionaries and multimedia products. 

eAlert
Is the free e-mail information service from Elsevier Science. Once registered in your area(s) of interest, you will receive regular e-mails informing you of new products and special offers. 

Internet Bookshop
The Jenny's Mail List feature, will inform you via e-mail whenever new books in which you may be interested are published.

Kluwer Alert
Free of charge, this service will notify you of the latest book titles published by Kluwer Academic Publishers, Kluwer Law International, and Kluwer Academic/ Plenum Publishers, as soon as they become available. Subject coverage includes Business Administration, Economics and Operations Research

Sage Publications Email Alerting Service
Sage offer new publications alerts alongside their journals contents alerts service. You can sign-up to receive details of new publications inclusing books in the fields of Accountancy, Business and Management and Development Studies. 

Springer ALERT
An automatic monthly email listing of new Springer books in your chosen field(s) of interest each month. Subject coverage includes Business and Management Science, E-Commerce, Information Systems and Economics, with more specific options within each category. 

Wiley-VCH Newsletter
A free e-mail service that notifies you of the latest publications and hot news in your area of interest. 

In addition, specialist publishers may offer a facility to e-mail you with recent publications - check the details on the individual websites of publishers.



Conferences and Conference Papers 

The following web services can help you to identify forthcoming conferences in your field and to find published conference papers. 

AllConferences.Net
All Conferences.Net is a directory, focusing on conferences, conventions, trade shows, exhibits, workshops, events and business meetings. It is a unique search directory that serves users looking for specific information on conference or event information. The Directory covers the fields of Arts & Humanities, Science and Technology, Business, Computers & Internet, Social Sciences, and many other.

Community of Science
- Meetings and Conferences
COS Meetings and Conferences database contains information on upcoming conferences and Calls for Papers. Registering with COS entitles you to access the CoS Workbench, a free service providing information on upcoming meetings, identifying meetings in your discipline, and promoting your society or group's conference. The database is searchable by topic area, discipline, and society name.  

Papersinvited
An international database of calls for papers, requiring registration to access the services. You can select areas of specialisation (including Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics and Commerce) and also enter keywords relevant to your research field. 

SOSIG Social Science Grapevine
SOSIG (Social Science Information Gateway) provides access to high-quality, evaluated internet resources in the social sciences. Grapevine provides information on conferences, events and research opportunities for all social science disciplines, such as education, environmental sciences, anthropology, psychology, business and economics. 

 


New Library Acquisitions

The Library will inform the academic staff and students with e-mails, sent on a regular basis, of all new acquisitions, including new journal subscriptions or subscrptions to online databases.

You may visit the Library News Web pages to see new books added to the library collection within either the last month or the last few months.
