The Computing Facilities can be used only by members of the Library and College students with a valid username and password provided by the Computing Centre. Please remember that the Library Computing Facilities are provided mainly for literature and database searching. There are 13 computers available
for public use on the first floor of the library, dedicated to provide
access to the Electronic
Information Resources that the library subscribes to. In
addition, the applications available on all of the computers include: MS
Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Explorer, Intranet and
e-mail. To access all computers, students
will need their authorized username and password provided from the Support
Staff of the Computing Centre. External members use a public username
and password, supplied by the Information Services Desk each time they
visit the library. The library scanner can be used to convert printed graphics into electronic format for use in documents such as course work, theses, or leaflets. The software available saves files in a wide range of raster (bitmap) formats. Apart from graphics, the scanner can be used to scan in text using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology. It is necessary to book in advance to use the scanner. A member of the library staff will be available to provide help on the scanning facilities. Alternatively,
you may download here instructions for scanning images
and texts. Printing
At the beginning of each Academic year all students are granted with 200 printing units free of charge to use at the Library Computer Lab. When these units finish, the Library Issue Desk must be approached to open an account and buy units.
