Keynote Speakers


This year's keynote speakers include some of the top names in the field:
Ron Smith
Professor of Applied Economics, Birkbeck University of London, UK

Ron Smith taught at Cambridge before going to Birkbeck in 1976. Research interests include econometrics, defence economics and political economy. He was a visiting Professor at London Business School (1992) and the University of Colorado at Boulder (1997-8).
Todd Sandler
Professor in Economics and Political Economy,University of Texas at Dallas, USA

Todd Sandler holds the Vibhooti Shukla Chair in Economics and Political Economy at the University of Texas at Dallas. He has written or edited twenty-one books, including The Political Economy of Terrorism (with Walter Enders), Global Collective Action, Economic Concepts for the Social Sciences, and Global Challenges. He has authored or co-authored over two hundred journal articles in economics and political science. His work on terrorism dates back to his co-authored game theory paper, “A Theoretical Analysis of Transnational Terrorism,” (American Political Science Review). In 2003, he was the co-recipient with Walter Enders of the National Academy of Sciences Award for Behavioral Research Relevant to the Prevention of Nuclear War for their path-breaking theoretical and statistical analysis of terrorism. His work is currently being funded by the US Department of Homeland Security.
