The University of Sheffield is one of the oldest British Universities. It is a leading research university, located in Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England, ranked within the World's top 100 Universities and constantly ranked amongst the top 20 universities in Britain. It belongs to the 1% of the best universities in the world.

THE-QS World University Rankings

The University of Sheffield is rated 14th in the UK, 30th in Europe and 82nd in the world in the 2009 Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings 2009 for the Top 200 Universities.
These rankings were derived using a combination of reputational surveys, staff/student ratios, the proportion of international staff and students, and research citations. The THE-QS is an organisation which annually issues the "THE - QS World University Rankings" , and is highly respected from the academic world. The THE-QS ranking acts as a world benchmark for the evaluation of universities and aims at providing a global comparison of the global universities’ success against the notional mission of remaining or becoming world-class.

Research Assessment Exercise 2008
Sheffield among Top 10 for Research Power

The University of Sheffield took great pride in excelling in academic research, according to the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) which was published 18 December 2008. RAE 2008 ranked Sheffield among the top 10 for research excellence out of the Russell Group, the association of leading UK research-intensive universities. The results of the RAE confirmed Sheffield’s position as a world-leading university with an international reputation for research excellence across a wide-range of disciplines. The RAE provides important information on the quality of research conducted in UK universities and other Higher Education Institutions against international standards of excellence.
