Through the traditional disciplines in the liberal, fine and performing arts, and the human and social sciences, the Humanities and Social Sciences Division provides coherence and unity to the entire College curriculum, and assures depth and diversity in its own areas of study.

The mission of the Humanities and Social Sciences Division is to provide a liberal education to every student.

A liberal education is focused on giving students a broad education, which will lay a durable foundation for critical and independent thinking. The essential spirit of a liberal education guides all curricula and programs of CITY College.

Such an education goes beyond imparting a body of facts. It helps students to examine and integrate creatively the perspectives of a variety of disciplines, to understand themselves as individuals and as part of history and of social groups.

The Division aims to create an environment in which each student can develop:

• An independent and critical mind
• An ability to write and speak with clarity and precision
• A capacity and desire for learning

We believe that our efforts to integrate a liberal component into the overall programme will greatly enhance and enrich the quality of the educational experience offered by CITY College to the students.
