Today's dynamic environment demands that organisations and their managers adapt and renew themselves continually to succeed over time. Success in this highly competitive business environment depends on entrepreneurship. The programme aims to develop managers who will take action to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities and start new ventures that bring to life new product or service ideas. The programme is addressed but not limited to students who have recently acquired their bachelor's degree and would like to upgrade and extend their business studies before becoming entrepreneurs, and to those already working in the profession who wish to improve their management qualifications.

An Extra Degree for our MSc in Management Graduates!
Students completing the MSc in Management programme qualify for CMI's most senior qualification: the Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management & Leadership by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and thus may gain two prestigious degrees from one programme.

Aims of the Course

The main aims of the programme are: 

  • To provide students with an understanding of how intra/entrepreneurship can be utilised to infuse innovation and creativity into organisations (both large and small) in order to better compete in the current business environment
  • To develop competent general managers, equipped with knowledge and understanding of many areas of specialisation (operations management, human resource management, small firms management, accounting, etc.)
  • To provide students with an understanding of organisations, their management and the environment in which they operate.
  • To develop in students a range of technical, human and conceptual skills, in order to enhance their future careers in management (e.g. team work, self appraisal and reflection, presentation and communication skills, etc.)
  • To apply the tools, concepts and theories of the old and new management paradigms
  • To promote knowledge and understanding of concrete business situations, investigated in their wider socio-economic and political context on the basis of an interdisciplinary approach
  • To develop in students the ability to analyse concrete business situations, to point out and diagnose management problems and to suggest alternative rational courses of action in order to solve these problems
  • To promote a student-centered learning approach in an interactive environment
  • To equip students with the ability to undertake a sustained piece of research relevant to organisation management

Other Information

Dissertation
Subjects of dissertations can cover the entire spectrum of management. As an example of what can be successfully covered, here is a short list of past subjects:
"Total Quality Management: the Changes from Traditional Ways of Management"
"A Framework for Building Business Intelligence"
"Business Process Reengineering"
"Key Success Factors in the Greek Incubator Industry"

The dissertation is realised in collaboration with a personal supervisor and gives the student the opportunity to research in depth a subject of his/her interest. The research may be conducted in a "real life" environment, allowing for the immediate interconnection of theory and practice.

Employment opportunities 
Students who have successfully completed the programme have found careers in both the private and public sectors and in a wide range of disciplines which include management consultancy and lecturing and in a variety of fields, including Quality Management, Operations Management and Production Management.

Full time study
The full time MSc in Management is ocompleted in one year and divided in two parts: one taught part (nine months) and one research part (three months).
Semester 1: October - January
Semester 2: February - June
Dissertation: July-September

Part time study 
The MSc in Management is also offered in part-time, over a period of two years. Lectures are usually held twice a week during evening hours.

Degree Title
Successful graduates are awarded the postgraduate degree of the University of Sheffield: Master of Science in Management. The title is awarded directly by the University of Sheffield.
