Join the fun

The Strategic Boardgames Club is a students club of CITY College, Thessaloniki in Greece.  Its members are mainly (but not exclusively) students and academic staff from CITY college.  We are affectionate boardgames players who love challenging, interactive, brain-killing games.

When and Where?

We are meeting every Thursday from 18:30 to 23:00 at cafe Taro. Everybody's welcome.  If you live in Thessaloniki and you like boardgames, join us in a gaming session and a cup of coffee or some bottles of beer. Sometimes we also meet during weekends for longer playing sessions.  Watch out for announcements of extra gaming sessions.

Where is cafe Taro and how to get there?

Cafe Taro is located at Konstantinoupoleos 50.  Take the bus number 31 from Egnatia Str, towards Kamara. Get off at bus stop Kyvelia. The café is approximately 100 m before the bus stop.

Mess with the Aliens

Hello again, as you see there is a small update on the GoD and the update is that i made a new banner.  Now let's head to the game!

 GoD: Alien Frontiers

Alien Frontiers is a gameabout colonizing an alien planet. The players are deep space colonists and they have to do anything, from managing resources to stealing resources from other players, to colonise the planet first! The game is pretty much a mix of territory control and worker + resource management but there is also the luck factor (dice included in the game, sorry!). The game has many new mechanics as I read in the rulebook very quickly and the dice doesn't ruin the game completely. Another plus is the cool-looking board and components, which you can see below. The game is played with 2 to 4 players but I would say it's 3 to 4. Lastly the game was designed by a infamous boardgame designer, but it turned out to be a success.

See ya tomorrow for another GoD,

 Andreas

PS: There is the pic I promised you...

Time for some climbing

Salut, you are reading GoD by Andreas D.

As you can guess by the title, today's game is a climbing game. But don't worry! Players will not have to endure harsh weather conditions nor limited oxygen supply... The game is named K2 and K2 is the name of the 2nd highest mountain and the 2nd deadliest also. K2 has never been climbed in winter.  (I don't know if these are true but I would like them to be!)

So let's head to the game! Each player has 2 mountaineers (I will just call them victims from now on) and the winner is the first to get to the summit. The characteristics of the game are Hand Management and Point to Point movement (choose the right way). There is a low luck factor but I don't think it will mind most gamers.

Why I liked the game? Because it has very nice artwork, interesting theme and mechanics and let's not lie, the name K2 is awesome... (K2 is the name of a police dog, I think?)

For those who just can't read this much, there are your pics!

Incan Empire Revived

Hi, it's Andreas again with another "Game of the Day" post (that's why it's called by now). The   GoD today is Inca Empire. It's a game where each player takes the role of an emperor and by conquering territories, one emperor becomes the divine emperor until Pizarro arrives. This game has a very interesting board with very nice colors (I liked them at least) and many many many wooden bits and also many components. [240 wooden components and 150+ markers and tokens]. The rules must be very simple but I think it's a complex game... That's all for today's game.

Keep on checking,

Andreas
