Research at CITY College

Scientific research constitutes an integral part of CITY College's academic activities. The majority of the faculty members are engaged in various research projects in collaboration with University professors, research institutions and private companies. It is often the case that research drives the curricula of postgraduate programmes so that there exists an appropriate balance between research and practice at Master level.

CITY College encourages research by creating a supportive research environment, evidence of which are:

  1. SEERC: The South East European Centre, an international, not for profit research centre jointly established by the University of Sheffield and CITY College and is located in Thessaloniki.

  2. RESEARCH STUDIES: CITY College, in collaboration with the University of Sheffield, provides appropriate resources and training for students to undertake research leading to a higher degree. Research degrees involve independent study, assisted by a supervisor, and the production of a thesis. There are currently 31 Ph.D. candidate students at SEERC, in CITY College. All successful research students are awarded their PhD directly by the University of Sheffield.

  3. FINANCIAL SUPPORT: CITY College offers financial support to members of staff who wish to participate in National or International Conferences and Symposia. The College covers fees, travel and other expenses for one or two events per member of staff per year.
  4. SABBATICALS: Every three years the full-time academic staff is entitled to a 6-month fully paid study leave (sabbatical). Sabbatical gives the staff the opportunity to promote their research and publication activities.
  5. RESEARCH GROUPS: There are several research groups that operate in the College academic Departments. The groups are formed by members of staff who share common research interests and activities. CITY College is able to demonstrate a substantial research work in many areas, such as information management, business process re-engineering, marketing communications, organizational behaviour, strategic management, human resource management, banking and financial sector.
